Baltimore, MD – SURVICE Metrology Group Manager Chris Cosgrove led a panel discussion and was one of the featured presenters at the recent 3D Aerospace and Defense Additive Manufacturing Symposium, held in Baltimore, MD. The symposium, which was sponsored by the Regional Additive Manufacturing Partnership of Maryland (RAMP MD) and hosted at OpenWorks, brought together approximately 80 representatives from Government, industry, and academia to discuss current additive manufacturing issues in the aerospace and Defense industries.
Mr. Cosgrove led a forward-looking panel on Future Requirements in Additive Manufacturing for Aerospace and Defense. This panel included representatives from the University of Maryland, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity, the Advanced Tissue Biofabrication Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory.
In addition, Mr. Cosgrove’s presentation, titled “The Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem,” was part of the Supporting Services break-out session. The presentation discussed the network of organizations (including service providers and small businesses) involved in additive manufacturing, as well as the digital thread that connects the activities and organizations (including SURVICE) involved in the additive manufacturing process. Other presentations addressed aerospace- and Defense-related applications, challenges, and future requirements; technology innovation; intellectual property; and educational pathways.
